You’re right—if somebody plans a murder (let’s just call it what it is), shouldn’t more loose ends be wrapped up? Should not the murderer’s story hold a little more water? Should not he keep a consistent story from day 1?

All true.

However, I think what we’ve learned about known killers—men who have been convicted of murder—is that these guys are pathological. Yes, they take steps to get away with their crimes. But in a way, they also believe they are too smart to get caught. They are pathological. They are narcissists. They think they’re better than everyone else. They enjoy seeing their exploits in the media. And they enjoy laughing in the face of the people who are trying to catch them.

Is there any doubt Will Hurley is that guy?

I think he knew he could plan something out and as long as Marian’s body was never found, he wouldn’t be prosecuted. Guess what? 21 years later he is still correct. This is why I continue to say that we must find a way to stop these kinds of disappearances. If not, they’ll keep happening. Because really, they are maddening—we know what happened but can’t prove it.
