So, please trust me when I say that the world we live in is safer than it has ever been since the 1950’s. That doesn’t mean bad things don’t happen. It doesn’t mean it will continue to be this way. All it means is this is how it is right now.
Unfortunately, what I’m also saying is I don’t believe our “nature” has changed. I do not believe that we are inherently nicer or more peaceful humans than 50 years. Nothing I’ve seen tells me that. I mean, all you have to do is read any Comments section for virtually any online article out there and it eventually descends into people making threats against each other.
Ben Charles Padilla was a 50 year old from Pensacola, FL. He was a licensed aircraft mechanic, flight engineer, and pilot of small airplanes. He was on a job in Luanda, Angola, overseeing the refurbishing of a 727. On the evening of May 25th, 2003, with the job almost completely done, an assistant and he went to the plane to test its engines. Minutes later the 727 rolled down the runway and took off. Neither the plane nor the men were ever seen again.
Rose Marie Gayhart was a 23 year old native New Yorker who moved to Cape Coral, FL with her boyfriend. She had a large family with many siblings who cared about her and were concerned with her moving away. On March 14, 1985, somebody in a red pickup truck allegedly picked her up after work. She was never seen again.
Jessica Edith Louise Foster—Jessie to the people who loved her most–was a 21 year old from Kamloops, British Columbia, living the good life in Las Vegas. On the evening of March 28th, 2006, Jessie talked to her sister in Canada who was planning to come visit Jessie in a few weeks. After that conversation, Jessie was never heard from again.

Jason Jolkowski was a 19 year old from Omaha, Nebraska. He had a passion for broadcasting and the Chicago Cubs. On the morning of June 13, 2001, his car was in the shop, so he began his ten minute walk to meet a co-worker who would give him a ride to work. Jason never reached the rendezvous location and he was never seen again.
Thomas Kelly Brown was an 18 year old from Canadian, TX. He was president of his class and loved acting and public speaking. On the night of November 23, 2016, Thomas was on his way home after hanging out with friends. He stopped to get gas in his Dodge Durango. He was never seen again.
Molly Miller and Colt Haynes were respectively 17 and 21 years old from Wilson, OK. They had only known each other a week but might’ve been headed toward a relationship. On the evening of July 7, 2013, Molly and Colt were passengers in a car that got involved in a police chase. The vehicle got ditched and the driver made it back to his house the next morning, while Molly and Colt seemingly got lost, trying to call friends to pick them up. They were never seen again.
Dennis Lushbough Jr., “Jay” to those who loved him most, was a 44 year old from Iola, KS. He was an only child and worked in construction. On Sunday August 14, 2017, Dennis and his girlfriend were allegedly coming back from camping. They got into a fight and the girlfriend got out of their van. She stormed off as Dennis drove away. He was never seen again.
